Iata: We will have to wait until 2024 for global air traffic to return to its pre-crisis level

The International Air Transport Association (Iata) announced on Tuesday July 28 that it will be necessary to wait until 2024 for global air traffic to return to its pre-crisis level, in particular because of the uncertainties over the openings of borders which weigh heavily. on international travel.

“We now estimate that the 2019 level (of traffic) will not be reached until 2024, which is a year later than we had previously planned,” said Brian Pearce, the chief financial officer of Iata.

He cited a slower-than-expected recovery in traffic in May and June and the uncertainties that remain over the lifting of border restrictions.

In mid-July, the general manager of Iata, Alexandre de Juniac, implored passengers to accept the assets rather than a refund, to save the companies, whose finances are at their lowest, due to the crisis linked to the coronavirus epidemic.

Airlines are “on their knees” for help from passengers in accepting credit notes rather than seeking refunds for flights canceled during the health crisis, he said.
