DUBAI, Mar 31 (Reuters) – The International Air Transport Association (IATA), the global airline industry body, said on Wednesday it will launch a digital travel passport with COVID-19 test results and vaccination certificates. on the Apple platform in mid-April.

The launch of the digital travel passport, currently in the testing phase, was scheduled for the end of March.

IATA Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East Kamil Alawadhi said he expects the launch on the Apple platform around April 15 and later on the Android platform.

“But the application will only be successful once the airlines, different countries, airports adopt it,” said Alawadhi.

British airline Virgin Atlantic said on Friday it would test the IATA app on its London to Barbados route starting April 16. Barbados has said it will accept the passport at its border, one of the first countries to accept a digital passport instead of paper documents.
