Ian Wright has questioned in Premier League Productions (08/28/21 at 1:35 pm) why Arsenal don’t give someone like William Saliba a chance.

The Highbury legend criticized claims that Saliba “is not ready” because he believes the current standard of Arsenal defense is “disgraceful.”

Arsenal were beaten 5-0 by Manchester City on Saturday, they are three defeats in three games, no goals were scored and the club sat at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Saliba is currently on loan to Marseille, where the Frenchman is still waiting to make his senior class debut with his parent club.

After watching the car accident defending Arsenal over the weekend, Wright made this claim of Saliba.

“You see, Mari, how easy it fell last week,” Wright said. “I think that is something systematic in this Arsenal team.

“They are waiting for the VAR to look at that and call it a foul (Gundogan’s goal). That is the level that we have reached.

“I mean someone like Saliba, who is not on this team because he is not ready.

“And that is the standard? It is shameful.”

Two years have passed since Arsenal paid £ 27 million for Saliba’s talents as a ballplayer (Sky Sports), but he has not played a single minute for the club.

If the Gunners were flying high, they had one of the best defenses in the league, then that would be understandable.

But it is far from that and raises the question of what Saliba has to do to break into Mikel Arteta’s team.

In truth, by the time Saliba returns from his Ligue 1 assignment next summer, Arteta might not even be in a job.
