Ian McDonald (75) dead, co-founder of the bands King Crimson and Foreigner

In 1969 the British group King Crimson released the record “In the court of the Crimson King”, with long, drawn-out tracks. The genre was named prog rock, or progressive rock. King Crimson opened for the Rolling Stones in London’s Hyde Park in 1969. It was the band of guitarist Robert Fripp; Ian McDonald played flute, saxophone and mellotron, a precursor of the synthesizer. He left King Crimson after one album.
