Ian Maatsen can leave Chelsea for Borussia Dortmund, reports 1908.nl and is confirmed by Voetbal International. The Germans are concrete for the 21-year-old left back, who made his starting debut in the Premier League for the Blues this week. Nothing seems to stand in the way of a move to Dortmund for Maatsen.
The Dutchman is personally almost in agreement with the Germans and ‘things also seem to be going well’ between Dortmund and Chelsea, it sounds. Nothing is yet clear about the amount of the transfer fee.

Maatsen hardly featured in the plans of manager Mauricio Pochettino this season, who usually made different choices in the left back position. The thirteen-time Dutch Junior international experienced stiff competition at Stamford Bridge and therefore now seems to be getting his money’s worth.

The Vlaardingen-born back seemed to be well on his way to Burnley last summer, for which he already played on loan last season. Maatsen decided at the last minute to stay at Chelsea, despite the presence of Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella, among others.
If the left-footed player does indeed move to Dortmund, he will play outside England for the first time in his career. Maatsen played in the youth ranks of Feyenoord, Sparta Rotterdam and PSV and exchanged the youth academy of the Eindhoven team for that of Chelsea in the summer of 2018.
The Londoners rented him out to Charlton Athletic, Coventry City and Burnley. In the summer of 2022, Feyenoord was still specifically for Maatsen. However, the back then opted for a rental period at Vincent Kompany’s Burnley. Maatsen still has a contract with Chelsea until mid-2025 and is worth twenty million euros, according to Transfermarkt.
