Ian Bailey, a man previously suspected of involvement in the Sophie Toscan Du Plantier murder, was suspected of being over the drink-driving limit when he was stopped by Gardai last week. He failed to give an adequate breath test after three attempts and was then taken to the nearest Garda Station to give a urine sample. Bailey allegedly admitted at the time he had drunk a pint and a glass of wine but decided to drive after eating a meal. The results of his urine sample are believed to have been positive for the presence of alcohol. This potentially faces prosecution, a €200 fine, three penalty points, and a possible one-year driving ban. Bailey confirmed that his test result was over the drink-drive limit and that he was “very disappointed” with the outcome. He has not yet stated whether he will fight the case. In addition to this, Mr Bailey is facing eviction from his rented one-bedroom home and is currently trying to find somewhere else to live. Bailey’s car was followed and stopped by officers as they felt he was driving erratically, and he fully co-operated with Gardai. Bailey has always denied any involvement in the Sophie Toscan Du Plantier murder and has spent the past 26 years trying to clear his name, even though a French court found him guilty in absentia in 2019 and sentenced him to 25 years in jail.
Ian Bailey was suspected of drink-driving and failed a breathalyzer test but was released pending results of a urine sample. The sample was positive for alcohol, and he now faces potential prosecution and a driving ban. Bailey, who denies any connection to the murder of Sophie Toscan Du Plantier, is also facing eviction from his rented home.
