IAEA warns of aggravation of situation – UNIAN

The State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation calls on the IAEA to assist in the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops from Energodar.

The International Atomic Energy Agency has been called upon to assist in the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops from Energodar.

A corresponding appeal was made by and. about. Chairman of the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine – Chief State Inspector for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Ukraine Oleg Korikov Facebook.

“Since the capture of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, the Russian occupation troops – the military, as well as representatives of the Russian state companies Rosatom and Rosenergoatom – have constantly terrorized and directly threatened the lives of employees and residents of the occupied city of Energodar,” the report says.

At the same time, the situation is aggravated by constant missile attacks on the territory of Ukraine by Russia, which, ignoring the possible risks and catastrophic consequences, sends them to nuclear power plants.

It is noted that cases of flying of cruise missiles similar to Caliber over the South Ukrainian NPP (04/16/2022), Khmelnytsky NPP (04/25/2022) and Zaporozhye NPP (04/28/2022) were recorded.

“These acts of nuclear terrorism in Russia occur due to the lack of a clear position and an effective response from the IAEA to Ukraine’s numerous appeals on this issue, which is why the representatives of Russia are convinced of their impunity,” Korikov noted and expressed the opinion that the IAEA, represented by the Director General, is under the influence of Russian propaganda and does not have reliable information.

“We call on Mr. Grossi to help Ukraine fulfill our demands regarding the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops, military equipment and personnel of Rosatom from the territory of the ZNPP and the city of Energodar, which would be the best guarantee for the safe operation of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, and also to demand an end to the shelling of the territory of Ukraine by cruise missiles. and operational-tactical missiles, since such attacks could potentially lead to a planetary catastrophe, greater in its consequences than the accidents at Chernobyl and Fukushima combined,” Korikov emphasized.

Earlier it was reported that Zaporozhye NPP from March 4 controlled by Russian invaders. The satellite city of the NPP Energodar was also occupied.
