At this year’s Munich Motor Show IAA Mobility, electric cars will play a key role. But we will also see the premiere of an available crossover for families or a city SUV-coupe.
–
The first year of the Munich Motor Show is just around the corner. The IAA Mobility 2021, a replacement for the former Frankfurt Motor Show in Munich, will start on September 6 with a press day. What will be the main stars of the new exhibition? We selected five of them:
–
Dacia Jogger: Family car available
Perhaps the most watched car at the Munich Motor Show 2021 will be the Dacia Jogger. The carmaker presents it as an affordable family car for seven, so of the world premieres presented, it has perhaps the greatest potential to interest ordinary clients.
–
According to available reports, the car will be a crossover that will indirectly replace three models, the Logan MCV station wagon, Dokker passenger van and MPV Lodgy. It is the practicality of the large car that the car combines with the stylish look of the SUV to attract more to today’s clientele.
Kia Sportage: Radical and electrified
The new generation of Kie Sportage also has the potential to attract a wide clientele, compact SUVs are among the most popular models of the brand. In the fifth generation, it changed fundamentally, the new design bet on a revolutionary redesigned bow with a newly conceived tiger mask or boomerang-shaped daytime running lights. The interior relies on a modern curved display. This time, Kia has built a version specifically designed for European clients that is more compact than the global model for non-European markets.
–
The supply of motors will be electrified in the spirit of the time. The new Sportage will be available as a mildhybrid, full-hybrid and plug-in hybrid, as well as a sister Hyundai Tucson using the same technical basis.
Mercedes-Benz EQE: Smaller brother of EQS
Mercedes-Benz is actively expanding its EQ electric range. Next in line is a model called the EQE, which is supposed to be a large sedan the size of the E-Class, the smaller brother of the electric flagship EQS.
–
The carmaker has not yet published more detailed information about this novelty, except for the first trailers. In any case, it follows from them that it will take over much of the technology from the EQS, albeit probably without the most modern elements, such as the electric door opener or the Hyperscreen interior with three screens in the dashboard.
Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric: Mégane for the first time
Mégane is now an integral part of Renault’s offer, its first generation arrived in 1995 as a replacement for the Model 19. He has experienced many during his career, his offer in the past included MPV (Mégane Scénic), coupe-convertible (Mégane CC) or three-door hatchback. This year, however, it will be introduced for the first time in the form of a crossover, in addition to being electrically powered.
–
At the same time, it is still not clear whether the new Mégane E-Tech Electric will only be an addition to the offer of the existing generation, available as a hatch and station wagon, or whether it will gradually completely replace it. In any case, the basis will be the new CMF-EV platform shared with Nissan Ariya, which was developed for the needs of electric cars. The design will follow last year’s Mégane eVision concept; from the point of view of the offer, an electric motor with an output of 160 kW and a battery with a capacity of 60 kWh are currently confirmed, which should ensure a range of up to 450 kilometers according to the WLTP methodology.
Volkswagen Taigo: The first of its kind
The offer of SUVs has grown at an unprecedented rate in recent years, yet in European markets it is still primarily associated with premium brands, although such a car is also offered by Renault, in the form of the Arkana model. Now Volkswagen is also preparing its SUV coupe for Europe, while the upcoming Taigo will be the first of its kind. There is no other city SUV on the market.
–
The car has been sold on the South American market since last year, under the name Nivus. The South American representation of Volkswagen was even in charge of its development. For Europe, however, the T-Cross-sized SUV was given a different name and supposedly a more premium cab, and will also be manufactured in Spain. The range of engines will include a three-cylinder 1.0 TSI and a four-cylinder 1.5 TSI, but only front-wheel drive will be available, as with the T-Cross with the same technical basis.
What else will be visible?
However, the Munich Motor Show will not be just about these five innovations. We will also see interesting cars at the stands of other brands. Audi is preparing the Grand Sphere concept, which is to be another example of the new stylistic direction of the four circles. Cupra UrbanRebel again, for the first time, it suggests an urban SUV for 2025. BMW also attracts the Vision Circular, the car’s vision for sustainable mobility, to the concept. And Volkswagen is reportedly preparing as well the concept of a new electric SUV to the city, apparently called ID.2.
IAA Mobility 2021 starts on September 6, the fair will be open to the public from September 7 to September 12. In addition to the Munich Exhibition Center, it will also take place in the center of Munich, as part of the new concept of this car show, which replaces the existing Frankfurt Motor Show.
At the car show, they will primarily exhibit domestic brands. Despite the interesting concept, the organizers did not manage to attract as many brands as in the most famous era of the Frankfurt Motor Show. Members of the Stellantis Group, including the domestic Opel, will be completely absent in Munich. For example, Škoda or Toyota will not have its stand here.
