IAA in Munich: “Revival for the hotel and catering trade” – other industries are already expressing fears

The IAA is to spread in Munich in different places in the city. That causes stomach ache for an industry. Hotels and restaurants, on the other hand, could benefit.

Munich – “No SUV, PS-Proletenschau – but a mobility platform,” is how Tobias Gröber, Business Unit Manager of Messe München *, describes the new concept of the International Motor Show (IAA). The IAA will not only take place on the exhibition grounds, but also in the city center – including in Maxvorstadt. Therefore, representatives of the Munich Exhibition Center and the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), together with Munich’s economic advisor Clemens Baumgärtner (CSU), presented the plans in the district to the district committee (BA).

In addition to exhibition areas, there should be a large stage on Königsplatz. On Brienner Strasse, various modes of transport, such as e-scooters and e-bikes, are to be made tangible. Exhibition areas of three companies are planned on Wittelsbacherplatz, which will present the mobility of the future.

IAA in Munich: “Will be a revival for the hotel and catering trade”

Two large exhibition areas are planned on Odeonsplatz in front of the Feldherrnhalle. There will be several small stands facing Ludwigstrasse, including one from Stadtwerke München. Bavarian dishes are to be served in the inner courtyard of the Ministry of Agriculture on Ludwigstrasse. But the local gastronomy should also get their money’s worth. This could be advertised in the IAA app. On the other hand, there should not be any outside catering.

Economics officer Baumgärtner (CSU) has great hopes for the IAA: “It will be a revival for the hotel and catering trade,” he announced. The Maxvorstädter CSU agrees: “I believe that Maxvorstadt will benefit from the IAA,” said Günther Westner (CSU). In this context, however, it is “absolutely appropriate that Königsplatz should have stationary toilets,” says Westner.

IAA in Munich: Organizers promise CO2-neutral exhibition space

While the new focus of the IAA is on all types of mobility, the event itself should also be more sustainable. “All exhibition areas must be produced in a CO2-neutral manner,” explained Jan Heckmann, the VDA’s IAA project manager. In addition, all exhibitors are supplied with green electricity so that the IAA can take place in a climate-neutral manner. The Greens in the BA particularly welcome the aspect of sustainability.

But there is also criticism, especially from the tree protection officer: “I deeply regret that the Königsplatz is being used – it is one of the few beautiful, large green spaces in Maxvorstadt,” criticized Ruth Gehling (Greens).

IAA in Munich: Museums could suffer from the auto show

The event is a thorn in the side of the director of the Staatliche Antikensammlungen and Glyptothek Munich, Florian Knauß, especially on Königsplatz. For the surrounding museums, the IAA would bring a number of visitors at the best time. Exhibitions could not be opened and due to the volume, the summer theater in the courtyard of the Antikensammlung could not take place either.

“All of these are losses that will be permanent”, explained Knauß and made it clear: “For Königsplatz it does not matter whether it is killed by an SUV or an electric car.” (Leonie Hudelmaier) * tz.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA
