PSD President Marcel Ciolacu said on Thursday evening that he would like Romania to join the Republic of Moldova, demonstrating, in context, that this is the “shortest” way for the Republic of Moldova to join the European Union, reports Agerpres .
“The most vulnerable state to the totally unjustified conflict on the territory of Ukraine is the Republic of Moldova. We have to decide… Will we let the Republic of Moldova return to Soviet influence sooner or later? (…) The entry of the Republic of Moldova into the European Union will take at least 10 years… Or you have the shorter version where Romania joins the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Moldova joins Romania,” Ciolacu said on RTV.
In this context, the Social Democrat leader said he wanted the shorter version.
“I would certainly like the shorter version, for the union of Romania with the Republic of Moldova. (…) One cannot leave again a country in the grip of Russia (…). The fate of the Romanians of the Republic of Moldova must be the same as that of Romanians from Romania: the EU and NATO. I understood that right now many Romanians want union with the Republic of Moldova. (…) We definitely need a referendum in both states. In other words, we need a normal course, unions are no longer made with a gun in hand,” said Marcel Ciolacu.
