The 2024 edition, called “Decoding Global Talent 2024“, involved 150 thousand participants from over 180 nations, outlining an international panorama of work mobility preferences and changes over time.

This year’s report highlights a decrease in the inclination to move abroad: 63% of professionals are open to working in another country, a decrease compared to 66% in 2020 and 78% in 2018. Active mobility, that is, the one in which professionals are proactively looking for opportunities abroad, recorded a slight growth compared to previous data, standing at 23%. On the contrary, 21% of interviewees are passively mobile, that is, open to moving but without actively seeking new opportunities.

It is interesting to observe how global mobility is influenced by various economic and quality of life factors. In Italy, the situation presents particular dynamics: 15% of Italian interviewees declare themselves actively willing to work abroad, a figure that increases among the young and more educated. As regards the places preferred by Italians for a possible move abroad, the Swiss remains the most sought-after destination, thanks to its proximity, economic stability and well-paid job opportunities. Other popular destinations include Germany, USA, United Kingdom, France, Australia, Canada, Austria and Holland. These nations offer, in the eyes of those interviewed, a combination of competitive salaries, high quality of life and political and economic stability, making them ideal destinations for Italians seeking international experiences and professional growth.

On the hospitality side, the attractiveness of Italy varies considerably depending on the sector and it is not surprising that the lights are fashion and design, iconic sectors of our country. Among the nationalities most interested in move to Italy, candidates coming from stand out Argentina, Egypt, Morocco, Romania and Tunisia. The research reveals that 19% of Argentines show a particular interest in Italy, followed by 11% of Egyptians and 10% of Moroccans, Romanians and Tunisians. These data suggest a positive perception of Italy in these countries, with talent attracted mainly by the quality of Italian life, the welcoming and inclusive culture, and the opportunities for professional growth in certain sectors such as fashion, design and manufacturing. Italy’s attractiveness for these talents reflects a combination of cultural and economic factors that make the country a desirable destination despite the bureaucratic and fiscal challenges that may arise.

Approximately 79% of respondents expect help with accommodation, 78% with visa and work permits, and significant percentages also expect assistance with relocation, language adaptation, and legal and financial advice.
