-I won’t allow my only granddaughter to be poisoned!

My mother became addicted to alternative medicine several years ago. The usual medications for headaches, blood pressure, stomach pain, and flu disappeared from her medicine cabinet.

They were replaced by homeopathic pellets and dietary supplements of unknown origin. She also regularly prepares tinctures and decoctions from herbs, roots and even vegetables.

“Ordinary pills cure one thing, cripple another, but natural remedies do no harm,” this is how my mother once explained her choice.

Although when she was younger, such oddities were not observed in her. If she got sick, she called the local doctor or went to the clinic herself, and then obediently took the medications prescribed to her.

Now, it’s not hard to guess, ordinary doctors in my mother’s picture of the world have become scammers or fools who themselves do not know what they are prescribing. And it became difficult to communicate with her.

Okay, she herself is being treated with something unknown, so she’s also coming at me with this. As soon as he comes to visit, he will immediately notice a package with some ordinary medicine and begin his lamentations:

– Throw away this poison already! Let me bring you my tincture, it will heal you instantly and won’t hurt your stomach.

“It’s strange, but according to the tests, all my internal organs are fine,” I object.

-This is just for now! Years will pass and don’t be surprised if you suddenly get very sick,” my mother likes to say with the air of an expert.

-Can we stop this pointless argument? “I still don’t believe in these potions of yours,” I answer more irritably.

Similar arguments accompany all my mother’s visits, which I endure solely for the sake of my daughter.

Polina, my daughter, loves her grandmother very much. She behaves normally with her. But after one incident, I seriously thought about whether it was worth inviting my mother to visit.

Because in her fight against chemistry she crossed all conceivable and unimaginable boundaries.

Polina recently caught a virus in kindergarten and became so sick that the doctor prescribed an antibiotic. I gave my daughter the medicine for as long as required in terms of time and dosage.

But there is still a little left. And I decided to carefully save the remains of the drug, putting the packaging in a visible place. What if it still comes in handy? And many antibiotics, including this one, are not cheap. And this became a fatal mistake.

When Polina recovered, at her request I called my mother to come to us. At first we drank tea and cakes relatively peacefully, and then her gaze fell on a cabinet with transparent glass, where the box with her daughter’s medicine lay.

-What is this, an antibiotic?! I won’t allow my only granddaughter to be poisoned! – Mom shouted in a voice that was not her own and jumped out of her chair.

While I was wondering what was happening, my mother had already opened the cabinet, took out the medicine from there and rushed to the toilet.

Finally, my numbness passed, and I ran after my mother, but I was too late. When I went into the toilet, she managed to squeeze all the pills into the toilet.

-Who gave you the right to manage my house? – I asked my mother angrily.

“Actually, my beloved granddaughter lives in this house, and since her mother doesn’t understand anything about treatment, I will do this,” she answered, pressing the flush button.

-I gave the medicine not for the bullshit, but as prescribed by the doctor. And Polina, by the way, quickly recovered after them, and this says a lot – I tried more calmly to awaken my mother’s mind.

“Now Polinochka is cheerful, and then suddenly her tummy hurts!” And the reason for this will be a stupid antibiotic. And yes, your doctor is a fool! – Mom continued to talk nonsense.

Then she began to tell me that there are special ones, and if you make a decoction from them, you will get an excellent replacement for all antibiotics in the world. But at the same time it does not give any side effects.

“As well as the effect,” I grinned, adding that the doctor also prescribed something for stomach problems after that drug.

– These prebiotics are nonsense! Consider it crushed sawdust,” my mother continued to press her line.

I had to take an excursion into history and remind how sad everything was before the invention of modern medicines. But even this could not convince my overly stubborn mom.

Polina came running to our argument and, almost crying, asked us not to quarrel. And my mother, right in front of her, called me a fool who still needs to be educated and educated.

I couldn’t stand how my mother undermined my authority in the eyes of the child, and I kicked her out the door. She explained to her daughter that grandma had a headache. That’s why she screams so loudly, and she really needs to go home and rest.

Perhaps I wasn’t even lying. After all, my mother’s behavior lately strongly resembles insanity. Oddly enough, she apologized a couple of days later, admitting that there was no need to interfere in my ways.

“I was worried about Polina then, and therefore I couldn’t control myself,” this is how my mother justified herself for her outburst.

I accepted the apology, but I’m in no hurry to invite my mother to visit, no matter how much my daughter asks for it. I’m not sure my mother won’t lose her mind again. And I absolutely don’t want my girl to watch these hysterical attacks.
