“I wish they felt the same…”

Reinaldo García left a post on social media.

Reinaldo García, a roller hockey player for FC Porto, took to social media this Sunday to lament the bureaucratic difficulties he has faced in obtaining Portuguese citizenship. Born in Argentina, the 40-year-old represents the dragons for the second period: the first from 2001/02 to 2006/07 and the current one since 2015/16.

“I arrived in Portugal for the first time when I was 18. I didn’t know anything about the country, the culture. I knew I was going to find a country passionate about my sport and a unique city, Porto. It’s been 22 years. I love Portugal, I have a family in Portugal, my life is in this country that I feel is mine. I feel like a Portuguese citizen. I am a roller hockey professional, I have my economic activity in Portugal, everyone knows what I I have a shop in Portugal, everyone knows where it is. My address has been in Portugal for more than five years in a row, I never stopped having my home in Porto, even when I played in A Coruña or in Barcelona. My children are Portuguese, my wife is Portuguese. Yes, we are all Portuguese, they were born, I was welcomed”, he wrote.

“My role as a Portuguese person is more than present in my life, I just wish the state entities responsible for it felt the same. I never gave up on my goals, it won’t be now!”, he guaranteed.
