President Klaus Iohannis made press statements on Thursday evening, after the PNL met with USR and then PSD representatives to negotiate the formation of a new government.

Main statements:

• I have two themes that I want to touch on;
• The first concerns the procedures for setting up a new government. Unfortunately, the last proposal did not meet a sufficient number of possible votes and thus the Ciuca government did not show up to vote.
• In the meantime, the parties have resumed talks with each other and it is a very good thing
• It is very clear that attempts to form minority governments have not yielded results and I cannot continue to accept such approaches.
• So I will wait with the formal consultations until the discussions between the parties crystallize an majority assumed by the parties that will want to propose a government.
• Only when the majority is assumed will I convene consultations for the formation of the new government
• The second theme – schools and vaccination
• The school holidays are over. At the end of the week, the holiday will not be extended and, from Monday, where the sanitary conditions allow it, the students will be able to physically return to school and kindergarten.
• A new condition for physical presence will be introduced – the degree of vaccination of school staff
• Vaccination is the only chance to overcome the pandemic
