“I will not pay you $50 million a year”, Mike Sando reveals the reason for the departure of Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks

In a move that shocked the NFL, the Seattle Seahawks have parted ways with their number one quarterback, Russell Wilson, ahead of the 2022 NFL season. The 33-year-old quarterback earned a trade to the Denver Broncos after much speculation about his future with the club.

However, after last season’s failure to make the playoffs, the Seahawks are seeing major turmoil in their ranks, which has already begun with the firing of several backroom staff.

Russell Wilson had 2 years left on his contract, but there were rumors that he was unhappy with the Seahawks.

A renowned journalist, Mike Sando, who follows the NFL, gave his opinion on why the franchise made such a drastic decision. On the Athletic’s football show, Sandi said his crazy salary demands were the main reason he was fired, as the franchise wasn’t ready to pay him $50 million on his new contract a year from now.

“They have to get a different quarterback. I think his calculation is this: They weren’t going to pay Russell Wilson $50 million in his next contract, which is what he would have wanted. I don’t know if you’ve noticed in the last year or so, Russell Wilson and his camp have kicked up a little bit of dust and smoke.” Mike Sando said.

Sando continued, “He has 2 years left, so 1 year from now he’s on a contract year, and that’s all I was talking about. What they’re saying is that we’ve seen the best of Russell Wilson, and we’re not going to pay him $50 million or whatever to make him happy. We don’t think we can make him happy.”

Mike Sando felt that the Seattle Seahawks he wanted something in return by making the trade this year, which would not have happened if he had been made to stay.

“Our options now are to let him play for 2 more years and then franchise tags and all sorts of things or a year from now decide we’re not going to pay him as much and trade him, or you know what, we know it’s not going to be a long marriage. anyway, so let’s do it now and we can get something in return.”
