“As the President of Russia and Supreme Commander-in-Chief, as a citizen of Russia, I will do everything to protect the country, to protect the constitutional order, life, security and freedom of the citizens. Anyone who organizes and prepares a military rebellion, takes up arms against his comrades betrayed Russia. And I urge those who are involved in this crime not to make a fatal and tragic, unique mistake, to make the only right choice – to stop participating in criminal acts.
The President emphasized that he spoke with the commanders of all branches last night and knows that the armed forces are heroically fighting in their positions, repelling enemy attacks.
“I appeal … to those who, by deception or threats, have been drawn into a criminal adventure, have been pushed into the path of serious crime – armed rebellion. Today, Russia is fighting hard for its future, repelling the aggression of neo-Nazis and their masters. Practically against the entire military, economic, information machine of the West. We are fighting for the life and security of our people, for our sovereignty and independence. For the right to be and remain Russia – a country with a thousand-year history”.
Attempts to split society in conditions when the unity of all forces is needed, the president called apostasy by his people, a blow to the back of the country. He compared the attempted rebellion to the events of 1917, when the country was in the First World War, but victory was stolen with the help of intrigues and politicking behind the backs of the army.
“What we are facing is is namely betrayal. Excessive ambitions and personal interests led to betrayal. A betrayal of our country, our people, and the cause for which the soldiers and commanders of the Wagner group fought and died side by side with our other units and units. The heroes who liberated Soledar and Artyomovsk, the cities of Donbas, who fought and gave their lives for Novorossia, for the unity of the Russian world. Their name and fame have been betrayed by those who are trying to organize a rebellion, driving the country to anarchy and fratricide, to defeat and ultimately to capitulation.”
The head of state warned that actions to protect the Motherland from the threat will be difficult. All those who followed the path of treason will inevitably be punished and held accountable before the law and the people.
Putin emphasized that the army and state agencies have received the necessary orders, and additional anti-terrorist measures are being introduced in Moscow and some regions. Decisive actions are being taken to stabilize the situation in Rostov-on-Don, where the work of civil and military authorities is effectively blocked.
“I believe that we will preserve and protect what is dear and sacred to us, and together with our Motherland we will overcome all trials, we will become even stronger,” concluded the president.
The previous evening, messages on behalf of Yevgeny Prigozhin began to circulate on social networks, in which the Ministry of Defense was accused of launching missile attacks on the rear units of PMC Wagner. The Public Relations Center of the Federal Security Service reported that all the information spread was false and constituted an informational provocation. The Ministry of Defense said the same. Prigogine stated that Wagner’s convoy was moving towards Rostov-on-Don. The investigative department of the Federal Security Service opened a criminal case against Prigozhin under the article “Organization of an armed rebellion.”
