I will continue to seek an Olympic medal: Alegna González | National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport | Government

The Olympic Games race came to an end on Wednesday in the French capital with the innovative mixed marathon relay event, which debuted at the event. Although Alegna González and Ever Palma finished in fifth place, close to the bronze medal, the Chihuahua native assured that the podium will continue to be a pending issue.

After repeating in Paris 2024 her fifth individual place obtained in Tokyo 2020, she explained that in the next event in Los Angeles she will seek to “get rid of the thorn”, because she believes she has the weapons to climb positions in Olympic results.

“It was a new event that I enjoyed a lot. I can say that during the competition I felt totally different. I always tried to fight for my goal, for that revenge that I wanted to achieve and we got fifth place. It was a competition that I had never experienced like that. I always went for what I wanted. I had a good team and we were giving our best,” said González.

“I am a very determined person and if I set a goal, I don’t give up until I achieve it. I want my Olympic medals, then I say that I’ve had enough of this, that I don’t want to continue any more, but I still have that itch and I’m not going to leave until I get it,” she added.

For his part, in his third opportunity as an Olympic athlete, Ever Palma highlighted what this new test represents for the race walkers, because although the goal of a podium was not achieved, he explained what it meant to share the route with Alegna González.

“It is a new experience, the team had never been in the Olympic Games before, working with someone else is something new, I really liked it, I have a great partner who couldn’t have asked for more, we gave it our all and I am grateful to represent Mexico. I gave my all, we knew what we were coming for, to give our best and that is what we did,” Palma said.

After the 42.195 kilometers, both marchers, who are still training at the National Center for the Development of Sports Talents and High Performance (CNAR), agreed that the important thing was to enjoy the route, trust in teamwork and gain such important experience at the Olympic level.

“I feel happy because it is a competition that suits me, I had a moment of rest and relaxation, I enjoyed it and tried to do my best. It is about enjoying the competition, I was different than in individual competition because I always demand a lot from myself and now I enjoyed it, each competition is a new opportunity to get the result,” González shared.
