I was warned not to join Chelsea — Palmer

<a href="https://www.world-today-news.com/manchester-city-is-still-far-from-ideal/" title="Manchester City is still far from ideal”>Cole Palmer has revealed he was advised against joining Chelsea last year but his move to west London “changed my life”.

Palmer joined Manchester City’s academy at under-eights level and progressed through the age groups, making his first-team debut under Pep Guardiola in 2020.

However, the 22-year-old failed to become an established figure in the City team and Guardiola revealed last season that Palmer was “asking for two seasons to leave” in search of regular first-team football .

Chelsea agreed a £45million deal to bring Palmer to Stamford Bridge and his move was a huge success, with the England star finishing his first season at the club with 27 goals and 15 assists in all competitions.

Reflecting on his decision to join the Blues, Palmer told ITV (via standard.co.uk): “How do I view leaving Manchester City? Yes, it was a gamble because I didn’t know what I was going to, I didn’t know the club I was going to.

“I was told not to go here, not to go there. But I decided what I wanted to do myself and I did it.

“Changing clubs changed my life. In many ways I left Manchester where I grew up, I left people I didn’t need to be with. And football too, of course. »
Palmer has already scored six Premier League goals this season, including four in a half against Brighton.

He also started both of England’s games during the current international break, but was ineffective against Greece and then struggled to make an impact in the win over Finland.
