“I wanted to go back on stage”

Toys , New toys … After having worked in various musical groups, you go out Sapiens and this time you are the only musician on board, is it a first?

Gilles Kauffmann , alias GiL: “This is indeed my first solo album. On the other hand, it is my seventh as a musician, the previous ones being the productions of the different projects in which I was able to participate. The idea of Sapiens had been there for a while, but it was the first confinement that allowed me to give birth to it. Rather than doing nothing at home, I organized lives on Facebook. The feedback was good, I worked in my studio and 47 pop, rock and even electro titles came out. They will be published gradually on three albums. There are new things but also old songs re-instrumentalized. Sapiens brings together 14 of these titles which are true stories, sometimes quite sad. Today it is available digitally. A physical version exists, but that is mainly for fun and because radios have contacted me about it. ”

Why did you release so many titles?

“It comes from a meeting when I was the manager of 112 in Terville. I had the opportunity to sympathize with Jim Kerr, singer of Simple Minds. He explained to me that the songs were adapted 30 minutes before the show, according to the wishes of the fans who followed them. As I wanted to go back on stage, I kept this perspective and I adapt the repertoire. And on July 23, it was my first concert for five years, at the Grenier in Thionville. Even though I have almost forty years of performing behind me, I have to say that there was a bit of stage fright. During confinement, I was able to work on a real video and light show, appropriate the software and put on a show on my own. Everything went very well and other concerts are planned between France, Belgium, Luxembourg. I stretch my back, but we’ll see depending on the health situation. Despite that, I keep in mind what my father once said to me: “Music is not a job”. He was right, it’s a passion. “

L’album Sapiens already on various music streaming platforms such as Deezer, Spotify, Amazon Music… Next concert scheduled for August 28 at 9 pm at La Guinguette, on the banks of the Moselle.
