On the occasion of the Statehood Day, Serbian President Alexander Vucic presented awards to deserving individuals and organizations, BGNES reported.

During the ceremony, he said Serbia is a bastion of freedom and independence and a guarantor of stability in the region, which wants to live well with its neighbors.

Hollywood actor Johnny Depp received a gold medal for merit. He said he would remain consistent and do everything in his power to make the medal the epitome of his commitment to Serbia.

“What’s really wonderful here is that people use every moment, the point is to celebrate the moment. Emir and I made a film here with a team that was spectacular, with a team that was never tired even though it was exhausted. I believe that there are many talents that we will find here and I hope to be a part of them. Thank you very much. I really want to thank you, President Vučić. I am glad that you gave me this medal of merit. I will remain worthy and I will do my best this medal to be the embodiment of my responsibilities here “

Here I have a passion for everything – kebabs, someone told me something about plum brandy, but I did not have the opportunity to try .. Now I am at the beginning of a new life and I like this beginning. I would like this beginning to be in Serbia, if you want me of course”.

The medal was awarded to Depp “for his outstanding contribution to the country and its efforts to expand and improve the local art community”.

In October 2021, the actor presented in Serbia the new animated series “Puffins Impossible”, produced by Milos Bikovic’s Archangel Digital Studios, created by the Italian studio Iervolino Studios (IES) and supported by the Serbian Ministry of Culture and Information. During his visit to Belgrade, the actor was received by President Vucic, who said that producing such films and series starring Hollywood stars was “important for the Serbian creative industry and for promoting the country around the world”. For his part, the actor promised to “continue to promote the country” on the international cultural scene.

Depp has long collaborated with the Serbian film industry. In the early 1990s, the actor starred in Serbian director Emir Kusturica’s first English-language film, The Arizona Dream. (1991). The film won a special jury award at the Berlin Film Festival.

Among the winners of the highest honors are Zeljka Cvijanovic, president of Republika Srpska, Milan Knezevic, a member of the Montenegrin parliament, and Zoran Jankovic, mayor of Ljubljana. The monastery “St. Prohor Pchinski” also received an order.

During a ceremony at the Serbian Palace in New Belgrade, environmental groups staged a protest and blocked the movement, demanding a permanent ban on boron and lithium mining.

Police stations around the building prevented citizens from approaching it. Protesters made several attempts to break through the police cordon.
