The cyclist got under the wheels of a truck on Buļļu Street, near the territory of the gas station. The woman was seriously injured and killed at the scene. Most likely, the driver did not see the pensioners, because from the point of view of the truck driver she was in the so-called “blind zone”.

“The lady pushed the wheel forward. He maneuvered out, he didn’t notice anything. He drove over and at that moment felt that something was wrong. Then he stopped. I tried to trumpet, to warn somehow, but he didn’t hear or how,” tells the accident eyewitness Kristaps.

Kristaps stopped by the roadside immediately after what happened and met the police to testify about what he had seen. A DAF steering wheel driver has also been summoned to the law enforcement vehicle to provide explanations. He also shared how the situation looked from his point of view.

“I stopped there to run the cars. She probably figured out the way to cross in front of me. I was standing right by the road. I was looking left, right,” says the DAF driver.

Due to the accident, a congestion developed in both directions on Buļļu Street, because the truck blocked one of the lanes. The freer movement resumed only after an hour and a half, when the police completed the investigation at the scene and the deceased lady’s bicycle was pulled out of the truck.
