“I see someone who plays way too defensively in important moments. He has to remember not to be too passive and I think then something really great can happen to him. Roger Federer recently spoke out about Alexander Zverev at the seventh edition of the Laver Cup last weekend in Berlin.
At the microphone ofEurosport, the former 39th Arnaud Di Pasquale commented on the Swiss maestro’s statement by being more nuanced on the case of the German player, still in search of his first Grand Slam title.
“I think we’re pretty tough on him. He is number 2 in the world, so basically, to do better is to be number 1. We are too hard on him. He’s still there and I think he’s progressing. I think he’s moving forward even if we see him falling back into his old habits. It’s true that in important moments, he has difficulty really going there, letting go, freeing himself as he can do when there is a little less pressure. But overall, I find that since his injury at Roland‐Garros, he is always more offensive, he goes for points more. It’s certain that nature sometimes comes back and it’s in these moments that you have to make the difference to win major titles.
