“Turkey, the French ambassador is called”
(London = Yonhap News) Correspondent Choi Yoon-jung = Paris shooting suspect charged with murder.
Hundreds of people, including Kurds, held a silent protest to honor the victims of the crime and demand an investigation into the truth.
A suspect who killed three Kurds in broad daylight in central Paris was charged with murder on the 26th (local time), according to the Associated Press and AFP.
A 69-year-old white man named “William M.” fired indiscriminately at the Kurdish Cultural Center in the 10th arrondissement of Paris and nearby restaurants and beauty salons on the 23rd, killing three people and wounding three others.
Hundreds of people, including Kurds, marched and protested from the scene of the incident that day to the site where three female Kurdish activists were also shot and killed in 2013.
Unlike two days ago, the protest ended calmly without taking on a violent aspect.
“Every day we think about when someone will shoot us again,” said Dagan Dogan, a 22-year-old Kurdish who attended the protest, “Why haven’t measures been taken to protect us?”
On the 24th, when anger erupted over the lack of measures regarding the security of the Kurds, the protests turned violent and the demonstrators clashed with the police.
Prosecutors said the suspect had pathological xenophobia and planned to kill foreigners or migrants and then take his own life.
After being treated for a time in a psychiatric ward, he was taken back into police custody.
This incident is turning into a diplomatic conflict between France and Turkey.
According to a diplomatic source in Turkey, Turkey summoned the French ambassador and protested, saying the French government is not responding lukewarmly despite the spread of anti-Turkey propaganda related to the incident.
During this protest, placards denouncing Turkiye and claiming a connection to the incident appeared, and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) flag was flown.
The Kurdistan Workers’ Party has been designated a terrorist organization in Turkey and the West, and Turkey is conducting a military operation against the group.
“As soon as I learned about the terrorist attack on Friday, I decided to protest,” said a woman who attended the protest, “I am afraid of the Turkiye community and the intelligence authorities.” She requested anonymity for fear of reprisals.
