Still, only 19-year-old Slovak representative Tomáš Suslov has confirmed since the beginning of the season that he is one of FC Groningen’s mainstays. Despite his young age, he has permanently adapted in the basic line-up and thanks his coach Danny Buijs for his excellent performances. He also assisted for the last goal of his team in a home draw 1: 1 with Heerenveen.

Slovak representative TOMÁŠ SUSLOV is slowly getting used to full minutes in Groningen

Groningen has the tenth place after the fourth round. You have five points on your account for one victory and two draws. You personally wrote down two assists, the second one you added last time in a draw with Heerenveen. The pass for the goal certainly pleased, but it was probably a weak patch for the loss of two points in the traditional derby…

“We have to admit, we played poorly in the first half. We lost 0: 1 after him. In the second half we played well, we dominated and we managed to equalize. If we played the whole meeting in this style, I have no doubt that we would win. ”

You managed to equalize in the 68th minute after your corner kick.

“The ball was heading towards the goal, and the keeper Cyril Ngonge ran high on the spot. He’s been doing well lately. He scored two goals in the previous match in Eindhoven, where we lost 2: 5. ”

In the last two meetings, you completed a full minute, which has not happened to you in two consecutive meetings. Do you feel more and more confident about coach Buijs?

“Yes, it’s like that. The coach trusts me. He believes in my abilities and also in my physical fund. That’s why I played whole matches. I felt good after the national team break. I am very happy to be on board regularly and I also get more minutes. ”

So there is satisfaction with your performance.

“I think yes. At the club, they are happy with me, so it’s great. I can only focus on football. Especially let my health serve me. Now we have a challenging week ahead of us. On Saturday we play in Tilburg, on Wednesday at home with Vitesse Arnhem and the next Saturday we will perform at Ajax. So we will play three matches against the teams that are in the table above us. ”

It is the representatives of Ajax Amsterdam that do not hide that they are watching you, so you will want to show up in this fight.

“I do not distinguish who I play against. In every match, I want to show myself in the best possible light. Of course, playing Ajax is an exceptional thing and every player is looking forward to this match, but I prepare for every fight in the same way. ”

Was there any response in the club to the national team event during which you competed against Cyprus? Are they interested in your situation in the national team at the club?

“They are definitely watching me and they are also interested in quite detail about what it suddenly looks like at the meetings, what the training process is like and what I think about the representation. They notice everything. They want to know how I am preparing during this period.

I can say for myself that in terms of the number of points, it was not a success, but in terms of gameplay and individual performances, it was excellent. So it’s supposed to be played for the national team and I think that people also enjoyed it and appreciated our performance. It’s a promise for the future and we should build on that. ”

By the way, does Groningen have other representatives besides you?

“As far as I know, two more. One is Norwegian Jörgen Strand Larsen and the other is Surilamans Damil Dankerlui. Two Swedes are in charge of the twenty-one unit. ”

Has your situation in the club changed since the end of Arjen Robben’s career?

“Not. Nothing extra has changed in my case. Of course, it would be great if such a star continued in the club and we could all learn from him on the field, but it’s over. Arjen was just looking at our training now. ”

You had similar roles on the field – you were in the team of two creators of the game, directors who are expected to make the final passes, play standard situations, but also finish behind the sixteenth. You’re both left. Will Arjen stop by your train for these reasons to give you any advice?

“He’s trying to talk a few words with everyone, but it’s true that we both talked a bit during training. He tried to advise me on what and how to do on the field. He’s a great man. He helps everyone. ”

Robben’s incorporation into the club’s structures is planned. Do you have any information?

“He doesn’t have a position in the club yet, but it is possible that this may change in the future. He’s a really big person. ”

TO THE JUBILEE WITH A NEW NUMBER

Football in Groningen was founded in 1915, but the current club FC Groningen started its existence in 1971, so it celebrates its 50th birthday this year. It is this anniversary that the current edition of jerseys points out, on which the club logo does not shine in the traditional green-white combination, but in gold. The number 50 below it is also missing.

“This season is definitely exceptional, but I admit that I don’t know if there is an event planned for a specific date, or any accompanying program for this jubilee,” said Tomáš Suslov, who also chose a new number on the jersey for this season. Until now, he wore a thirty-one, since the new year he already has a seven.

“More players wanted a seven, but I said I wanted it, so I have it. I still liked the seven. I also played with her in the youth categories. I also like tens. It was worn by Arjen Robben last season and this year it is worn by a new reinforcement, the Swede Irandust, “ explained the Slovak representative.
