MEP Corina Crețu, a former European Commissioner, revealed in a Facebook post Sunday that she was diagnosed with breast cancer for which she was operated on and is currently undergoing radiotherapy sessions. Corina Crețu says she decided to talk about it to draw attention to the need to put health first and to warn about the importance of routine checks.
“There is always a new beginning. With an extra life experience, with confidence, courage and faith. And if, following this post, at least one person no longer postpones medical examinations, I feel at peace with the my conscience “, writes Corina Crețu.
Corina Crețu’s post:
I finally decided to talk. I don’t want to dramatize because it’s not necessary. But the article below gave me the courage to convey a message that I have had in my heart since the summer and did not know how to proceed.
I chose to write this post in order to help, use my life experiences to call attention to the need to put health first and to warn about the importance of routine checks.
It was the end of July and I was looking forward to the holiday. I had bought the plane tickets to go to Oradea, to attend the meeting of the Executive Office of PRO Romania Bihor.
In the meantime, some analysis, especially since too much time had passed since the last analysis.
“Emergency operation, there’s no point in taking a biopsy, it’s a small tumor that looks like cancer.”
A word like any other, which until then meant nothing to me.
I have started a new journey.
The Bucharest diagnosis came true, but the biopsy revealed the fact that God sent me to the doctor in time. The initial stage. Already after the operation, the surgeon told me that I am perfectly healthy, but for safety and to prevent them from happening again I will also have to do radiotherapy.
Like all accidents in my life, I took them for what they were, problems I have to solve in order to move forward.
I went ahead with all my plans except the vacation.
I have five more radiation therapy sessions.
I thank all those who have been close to me: family, friends, doctors, medical staff.
I thank all the civic organizations that fight and fight against cancer, especially against the early detection of breast cancer. Only now do I realize the importance of these actions and I want to commit myself to every effort that can make women aware that every day counts.
I know, we always have something more important to do, we are stressed and tired, most of the time we keep procrastinating.
I ask all of you to take care of yourself.
I will continue to fulfill my responsibilities in the Romanian Parliament and as Prime Minister
Vice President of PRO Romania. More determined than ever. I want to do good, help my country, use everything I have accumulated to improve people’s lives. I am sorry that this summer has disappointed many people I promised to visit.
But there is always a new beginning.
With an extra life experience, with confidence, courage and faith.
And if, after this post, at least one person no longer postpones medical visits, I feel at peace with my conscience.
Thanks everyone, good health!
