A Norwegian man is accused of murdering the mother of their common child in Poland. A friend of the man says he couldn’t wait to visit his daughter.
– I never thought he could do such a thing, says the friend of the Norwegian accused of murder in his twenties.
She has known him for several years and describes him as a good friend. The woman doesn’t want her name printed on her.
– He is very kind and thoughtful and I have always had pleasant conversations with him. It is very sad that it can end like this. You never imagine that a friend or loved one arrives in that place.
Polish police went out Saturday night in search of a missing girl after the girl’s mother died found murdered in an apartment in the Polish city of Oswiecim at 5pm on Saturday evening.
An important search has been started for the child’s father, a Norwegian man in his twenties. He was stopped by Danish police late Saturday night, suspected of killing the Polish woman and kidnapping their common daughter. The daughter was found at the same time, safe and sound.
– I still don’t understand
The friend says they were part of a large group that met regularly and that the news came as a shock.
– Everyone knows that this is a person with whom we have dealt with a lot. I still don’t understand.
He says he last met the man a few months ago. Then she is said to have said that he was looking forward to seeing her daughter again in Poland.
– He showed a picture of him and we saw that he was very happy, says the friend, and adds:
– I hope it works and that the court takes its course.
On Sunday the prosecutor in Oświęcim won the court’s request to obtain extradited the Norwegian man suspected of murder from Denmark to Poland through a European arrest warrant. The prosecutor Janusz Hnatko confirms this, writes Radio Cracow.
If Denmark agrees to extradite the man, he will be arrested in Poland and prosecuted there. According to the police, the man faces a sentence of at least 25 years.
The VG failed to make contact with the man’s defender, Henrik B. Jensen.
Police: shared parental responsibility
Police lawyer Arne Fjellstad said so VG Sunday the accused man has a residential address in Vestland County. The two have children together and the Polish woman appears to have lived in Norway since 2014 and emigrated from Norway in May 2020, according to Fjellstad.
In the autumn of 2019, the man went to the police station and reported the disappearance of his daughter. He expressed that he thought his daughter was with his mother in Poland, which the police confirmed after the investigation.
A similar investigation by the child’s father came in 2020.
– Then the argument was that the mother had not returned from Poland. Documents from 2019 say that in the fall she will suddenly go to Poland and take her daughter with her, Fjellstad tells VG on Monday.
The case was eventually dismissed because the child was with his mother, the lawyer says.
– It became a situation where things went in a different direction than the police. It has become a question of visiting and who is responsible for the child. As far as I know, they shared parental responsibility at the time, says Fjellstad.
– Is it normal to abandon these cases?
– No two cases are alike and we don’t have many cases like this.
Internationally sought after
The Norwegian in his twenties was internationally wanted, suspected of the murder committed in Poland.
– The man had a car, so we alerted other countries, including Norway, because he’s gone, Krakow police spokesman Sebastian Glen told VG on Saturday.
On Twitter, the Polish police thanked for the cooperation.
According to the police, the murdered woman’s father, or the baby’s grandfather, will temporarily take care of the baby.
