Carlos Alcaraz, qualified this Sunday for the round of 16 of the Madrid Masters 1,000, assured that he still “does not completely trust” his right forearm, but even so he sees himself as “capable of continuing to advance” in the tournament.
Alcaraz beat the Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild 6-3, 6-3 without apparently showing any discomfort.
«I still don’t completely trust the forearm. It’s not that I have doubts, but the issue is there. Every time I go forced or hit a more aggressive right, the thought comes about how he is going to react,” said the Spaniard at a press conference.
The current number 3 in the ranking considered that the match against Seyboth Wild was “super good”, but his goal remains not to get hurt.
«Physically I am feeling good. But jumping onto the court one day and seeing what is going to happen… those thoughts are going to take a while to go away,” admitted Alcaraz, who missed the Monte Carlo and Barcelona tournaments due to arm discomfort.
“But I see myself with the ability to continue moving forward,” he noted. «It’s not that I’m playing at a low percentage, but in a different way. I tend to hit my forehand harder and harder and sometimes Juan Carlos Ferrero, even when I’m feeling good, tells me that I don’t need that much. Now it’s about relaxing and putting your hand forward.”
Regarding his rival in the round of 16, the German Jan-Lennard Struff, whom he beat in the 2023 final, he said that he knows “his level, what his game is like, a little uncomfortable, with good baseline shots, serve and volley.”
«But I am very happy with the level at which I am playing and at this level I can do great things and I will have a chance to win the game. But I’ll have to make you feel uncomfortable,” he commented. EFE
