During her long career, Elena Kamburova managed to record more than one hit for domestic cinema and even become a symbol of Yeralash – it is her voice that sounds in the famous intro of the film magazine. But success did not come to the actress immediately.

In a new interview, the people’s artist shared her main pain. Her path to the stage was very thorny. Kamburova dreamed of becoming an actress from the school bench, but she was afraid to act immediately after school. On the advice of her mother, the future star applied to the Institute of Light Industry in Kyiv and studied for two years as a shoemaker.

Realizing that she was not at all interested in making boots and shoes, Kamburova nevertheless decided to take a chance and went to enter the famous Pike. I arrived in the capital a month before the start of the exams, I decided to appear to the famous masters. But the applicant had nowhere to live.

“… I spent the night at train stations, on benches, at construction sites – I was pretty exhausted by the beginning of the exams. And I completely faded when I saw other applicants – tall, beautiful, long-legged,” Elena recalls.

She went through two rounds successfully, and then she was still refused. The commission decided that “the appearance does not pull on the heroine”, and the characteristic actress from the girl will not work.

“For me it was a tragedy. I sobbed, experiencing a terrible injustice. Not only that, I stayed on the street,” said Kamburova.

The future celebrity decided not to return home because she was ashamed in front of her parents. Elena told mom and dad that she signed up for preparatory courses to enter the theater next year, and she herself began to look for work. I still spent the night at railway stations, and once – even secretly in the auditorium of the Vakhtangov Theater. As a result, Kamburova was accepted to the construction site as an assistant to a bricklayer. She prepared the solution and brought it to the master.

“Housing also finally somehow settled down: I was allowed into a room in a barracks hostel. It was a utility room that was not heated. I went to bed right in my coat. I got up at six in the morning and drove through the whole city. It was a year of serious trials” – shared the artist.

Nevertheless, Kamburova made her way to the stage. Now she continues to work actively as the artistic director of the Moscow Theater of Music and Poetry.
