Gypsy is a white shepherd who recently gave birth to eight puppies in the United States. A happy event that made its owner, Shana Stamey, very happy … except when she discovered the fourth of the litter.
In welcoming the fourth puppy, Shana realized that his coat was … lime green. “I started to panic. I knew it was safe, but I had to make sure of it by contacting a veterinarian, “said the mistress to American media.
If the color may indeed surprise, it is nonetheless quite natural. This is a known phenomenon, as explained by Suzanne Cianciulli, veterinary technician at Junaluska Animal Hospital. “The amniotic sac in which the puppies are found when they are in their mother’s womb may contain meconium (baby’s first stool / greenish-brown puppy) and this tends to stain them.” The pigment anomaly “can especially color the white fur,” adds the expert. Note that the emission of the first meconium occurs in most cases 24 to 48 hours after birth, but it is not impossible that the ejection of meconium occurs before birth.
Reassured, Shana did not lose her sense of humor by baptizing the Hulk puppy, in reference to its color and its big appetite. Its lime green color quickly turned to fluorescent yellow as evidenced by the images and videos published by NBC outlet. He should regain a “normal” coat in a few weeks thanks to regular baths and his mom’s daily licks.
Hulk, described as “a lucky charm” by Shana Stamey, is in good health. He and his seven siblings will be adopted as soon as they are weaned.
