Hermosillo, Sonora.- Sebastián is getting closer to stepping on the stages of Broadway! The young dancer, originally from hermosilloreceived a 100 percent scholarship to study dance at NY.

The love of Sebastian Othon Guerrero She started this art at the age of three, but it was not until two years later that she managed to find and enter a dance academy that also received children and, since then, she has not stopped touring on the dance floor.

Now, with 15 years of experience and many dreams ahead, he will be part of a Certification Program for the Peridance Center New Yorkone of the most prestigious dance schools in the big city.

“While there -in New York- the teacher Every Perry He talked to me, we got closer and he told me ‘come take a ballet class and then we’ll talk’, so I went to take the advanced level class, there were professionals who already work in that and I learned a little from everyone. Seeing that helped me a lot.

I have a talk with the teacher, he tells me a little about what it’s about, ‘we have a two-year certification program for dancers who have an intermediate level and you can see that you have boards but you have to reinforce yourself in ballet, I want to offer you a 100 percent scholarship but I need to know you’re the right person’ and I asked what I had to do.”

Although his flight back to Mexico was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, Sebastian agreed to do a ballet audition on a Wednesday morning. He arrived at the school with his suitcases, risking everything to get that place in the institution.

Right after the test, Professor Perry gave him the news that he had been selected to receive the 100 percent scholarship and will start this new adventure next September.

“I see myself dancing on the stages of New York. Always, since I was a child, I have seen myself there. Normally I have to dance in the House of Culture in hermosillo and I imagine I’m dancing on a stage over there.

It’s my dream, I aspire to it, I yearn for it, and they’re the kind of dreams that don’t let you sleep at night, but when you fulfill them… you live from the dream with your eyes open, and the world of Broadway fascinates me, the whole world of The musicals. I see myself there and I don’t know what my life would be without dance”.

Jazz, tap and ballet are her passion. And although she has received classes in other dance styles such as contemporary and folklore, the first three are the ones she specializes in and the ones she constantly trains.

“I remember the phrase when man landed on the moon and said ‘This is a small step for me but a giant leap for humanity.’ I feel like that but backwards. This is a small step for humanity, but a giant step for Sebastian.

I feel very happy, very grateful, really very blessed with all these opportunities. 2022 was a great year and thanks to the support of many people behind it, trusting in me and in this project, purpose and dream of life, it is being achieved little by little”.

Currently, Sebastián is in the sixth semester of the career of Architecture in it Tecnológico de Monterrey Sonora North Campusfrom where he has also received the support and backing to fulfill this dream.
