Olga and Sasha are two Ukrainian sisters. The first she is 34 years old and is a wine merchant in Paris, where she has lived for seven years. The second, 33, lives in Kyiv with her parents and grandmother. She recently worked remotely for a French digital communications agency. The two sisters agreed to keep their logbook right from the start of the conflict M The magazine of the world. This week Olga, from Paris, and Sasha, about to resign and go on vacation, are following with fervor the progress of the Ukrainian counter-offensive.
Tuesday 6 September
Olga: I have no motivation at all lately. Neither for work nor to sing, nothing. I give money to the army. To buy drones, military thermal underwear, prosthetics for wounded soldiers and children.
Sasha: My last week of agency work has begun. I have the feeling that this is the beginning of a new period in my life, which will be brought about by more conscious activities. Can’t wait for our trip with mom to the Carpathians. For the first time in the past six months, I will be leaving 500 kilometers from home.
Last bombing on our nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia yesterday, just before the conclusions of the IAEA mission [Agence internationale de l’énergie atomique]. The last reactor was disconnected from the Ukrainian power grid. The only target of the racists [contraction de « russe » et de « fasciste »], is to make our existence as difficult as possible for as long as possible. They don’t give a damn about the decision of this international organization.
I don’t watch many movies or series anymore, my life offers the most interesting scenarios. The videos of our heroes fighting at the front, the images of the battalions in front of the signs of the liberated cities, Kiev [Kiev, en ukrainien] which is militarized with, everywhere, groups of soldiers, camouflage machines, some of which are marked with the number 200 [le code utilisé pour les soldats morts]. My heart stops for a second when I see one, then I feel deep gratitude.
Today Boris Johnson, a great friend of Ukraine, resigned and decided to declare himself anti-Putin Liz Truss [Olga et Sasha ont choisi de ne pas mettre de majuscule à poutine, russe et russie], became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. I look at the photo of her meeting with Elizabeth II and wonder how long this amazing woman will stay with the British people.
