The mayor of the municipality of Vita (Ávila), Antonio Martín Hernández, will be expelled from the Popular Party but for now he remains in his position after the Socialist Party and Podemos denounced the existence of a video in which he appears singing a song that says: “I found a girl alone in the forest, I took her by the hand and took her to my bed. I lifted her skirt and lowered her panties.” Then, and after repeating this chorus on several occasions, the lyrics continue: “I threw her the first caliqueño. I threw her the second caliqueño. In the third there was no milk left.” The video corresponds to last August 25, during the San Bartolo festivities of the aforementioned town.
The PP has announced this morning that the councillor will leave the council due to the “unacceptable acts” he was involved in, but his resignation has not yet taken place. “Given the unacceptable acts committed by the mayor of #Vita, Antonio Martín, who is not a member of the Popular Party, he will leave the PP Municipal Group. We reiterate our commitment against all degrading attitudes towards women and minors,” the party has expressed on the social network X.
The current mayor is reportedly on holiday in the Greek Islands with his wife, according to local residents who spoke to laSexta.
The reaction comes after Podemos and the Socialist Party demanded on Sunday that the Popular Party immediately remove the mayor of the municipality of Vita (Ávila) for singing a song that “glorifies paedophilia and rape”. The secretary general of Podemos, Ione Belarra, and the secretary of organisation and spokesperson for Podemos, Pablo Fernández, shared a video on the social network X in which the mayor of this town in Ávila could be seen singing the aforementioned lyrics.
Fernández demanded that the PP immediately remove the mayor. “This boor is Antonio Martín Hernández, mayor of Vita (Ávila) for the PP, making an apology for paedophilia and rape. The PP has to remove him immediately, it is intolerable that public representatives have this type of behaviour. Shame. Disgusting. Infamy,” he posted on his X account.
Belarra made similar comments, asking Feijóo to expel him “immediately” by specifically mentioning him in her post. “It made me want to vomit and it made my hair stand on end. This is rape culture and it cannot be tolerated,” she added.
The Socialist Party also joined in the complaint, criticising the “sickening” video of the Popular Party mayor and demanding that the PP immediately expel him from the party. “The apology of paedophilia is not freedom of expression. We hope that Mr Feijóo will give the order without wasting a minute,” said Pedro Sánchez’s party in a statement.
Youth and Children will consider measures against the mayor of Vita (Ávila) for promoting “rape culture”
For her part, the Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego, announced on Monday that her ministry will consider “all possible measures” against the mayor of the town of Vita (Ávila), from the Popular Party, for a video in which he is seen singing a song that praises “the culture of rape” and “violence against children.”
The minister detailed this in a message on the social network X in which she described the video as “repugnant” and demanded “zero tolerance for rape culture”, announcing that the ministry she heads will study “all possible measures” against the mayor of the town of Avila, Antonio Martín Hernández, of the PP.
