“I officially declare the national emergency” due to the coronavirus, says Trump accompanied by the health authorities | Univision Salud News

The country’s vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, announced this Friday that the first two cases were reported: a 41-year-old woman who had traveled through the United States, Italy, and Spain; and another 52-year-old man who was in Spain.

“These two cases are already absolutely isolated, direct contacts are determined and the entire chain of indirect contacts is being built,” Rodríguez said.

Both arrived back to Venezuela on an Iberia flight, so the government ordered that all those who traveled on that flight between March 5 and 8 enter “immediately into mandatory preventive quarantine.”

Among other measures, the government suspended classes across the country as of Monday, the concentrations or meetings and ordered the use of the mask in all pedestrian border ports with Colombia and Brazil.

This Thursday, President Nicolás Maduro had declared an emergency in the country and had suspended for a month all flights from Europe and Colombia.

The coronavirus arrives in Venezuela at a time when the public and private health system is hit hard by a political and economic crisis that has worsened over the years and that has affected the supply of essential goods and essential use for the medical care, from gauze to medicine to treat diseases such as cancer.
