A 94-year-old man living in Italy called the police on Friday. He was not in danger but felt alone and wanted to know if the riflemen could come and see him briefly… to celebrate Christmas with him and toast.
It’s a beautiful story that took place in Alto Reno Terme, a small municipality of about 7,000 inhabitants located in the metropolitan city of Bologna, Italy. The Carabinieri, a military force tasked with policing missions, received a call from a 94-year-old man on Christmas Day on Friday.
“Hello, I am 94 years old and I am alone in the house, I miss nothing, just someone to exchange a drink with for Christmas…”, began to explain Malavolti Fiorenzo. “If there was a soldier available, 10 minutes to come and see me because I am alone”. A request accepted: two soldiers showed up at his home shortly after. A pleasant moment and exchanges then began, as shown in this beautiful photo published by the Carabinieri on Facebook.
“It was an opportunity to chat and tell funny anecdotes”
Malavolti Fiorenzo was moved and offered them a drink, as he had planned. “After the initial emotion and a warm Christmas drink, it was an opportunity to chat and tell funny anecdotes, as well as some video calls to the relatives of the elderly man”, explain the military on Facebook.
The nonagenarian took the opportunity to tell the two soldiers that his stepfather, Marshal Francesco Sferrazza, was at the time of the Second World War, the one in charge of the rifle barracks of Porretta Terme, a neighboring municipality. A barracks which was destroyed during the bombings.
There is no doubt that the visit of the military was a very good moment for Malavolti Fiorenzo. “Proud to have given this wonderful Christmas present! “, concludes the message of the riflemen.
