I miss an appropriate appreciation of this major event – letters to the editor Freiburg

To the report “Night concerts by moonlight” (BZ of July 11).

As a longtime subscriber to your newspaper and a choir singer, after initial hesitation I have now decided to comment on your “reporting” on the choir festival “Chorwärts”. In the article in particular, I miss an appropriate appreciation of this major event, which was excellently organized by the “Chornacht” association, supported by the Breisgau Choral Association and the city of Freiburg. Neither is it mentioned that more than 2000 singers from abroad took part, nor is the panel discussion with the mayor of Kirchbach and DCV President Wulff, which took place on Sunday at the potato market, mentioned. In general, the author of the article seems to have only been at the choir festival for a short time on Friday evening, because she only loses a dry sentence about the grandiose performance of the Taverner opus “The veil of the temple”, which is only the third in the world. Otherwise, the article is slightly reminiscent of the school newspaper style: “Right from the start of the choir night there was a lot going on” (just one of many examples). Describing such an event with such a meager article borders on ignoring what was on offer. Other events such as “Sea you” and, most recently, the district costume meeting in Emmendingen (a whole page with pictures!) are described in much more detail. The aim of this choir festival was also to break a lance for choral singing and to get people to sing across borders. The BZ paid no attention to this intention, which is incomprehensible and shameful in view of the mammoth achievement of the organizers. Too bad.

Monika Sonntag, Gundelfingen, Chorus “Let’s sing!”
