“I Love Holland” Ratings Disaster: Linda de Mol’s Show Costs More Than it Yields

Linda de Mol started Monday with a huge downer. Last week it became clear that the viewing figures of the first episode of I love Holland were quite disappointing and now ratings expert Tina Nijkamp reveals that the program costs more than it yields…

Linda de Mol can be seen on television again every week with a new season of I love Holland. But last week it became apparent that there was little interest in the program. And unfortunately: last weekend even fewer people watched the program.

Downer

“677 thousand viewers versus 620 thousand viewers,” writes Tina Nijkamp in her column for De Telegraaf. That is a tough pill to swallow for Linda, says Tina. “Also only a meager 9.2 percent market share in the commercial target group from 25 to 54 years old. This format seems to be on its way out and money will most likely be needed.”

‘Costs more money’

As a former channel manager at SBS6, Tina can estimate how much the program costs and it will take a lot of viewers to earn that back. “It’s probably return on investment with these figures in the minus. Too little for such an expensive program. One episode probably costs around 110 to 150 thousand euros, including fees, presentations and panelists.”

‘Too fake’

According to Tina, a program like I love Holland no longer up to date. People prefer to watch shows like A House Full. “Those quizzes and panel shows may feel too manufactured, too produced and too fake in 2024. In these times we need normal and, above all, real and pure television.”
