She is one of the most popular actresses in French cinema… And yet, the streaming giant has managed to seduce her! Sophie Marceau will therefore find director Lisa Azuelos to shoot “I Love America”, an original French film produced by Amazon Prime. A new attempt which proves, once again, that the platform intends to attract the French spectator.
Sophie Marceau : Vic forever
At 54, Sophie Marceau is still this actress that the French public adores. Indeed, she marked a whole generation by interpreting the teenager Vic in The party (1980) and The Boom 2 (1982). From then on, it was the beginning of a great career during which she crossed the ages, but also the continents since she plays in several international films (Braveheart, The world is not enough).
These last few years have been quite difficult for Sophie Morceau. Indeed, her third film (as a director) titled Mrs. Mills, such a perfect neighbor, was a flop. And we haven’t seen her on camera since. It is therefore a great joy to have cinematographic news of the actress.
Romantic reunions
Since the beginning of her career, Sophie Marceau has often shot in romantic comedies. Therefore, we do not change a winning team because with I Love America, the actress remains in her favorite register. She finds, moreover, another specialist in the genre: Lisa Azuelos. In the past, the two women had already worked together on the films LOL and An encounter. The director will co-write the screenplay with Gael Fierro. Produced by Autopilot, I Love America account for the moment Djanis Bouzyani, who accompanies Sophie Marceau to the distribution.
According to the synopsis delivered by Amazon Prime, the film follows the adventures of Lisa (Sophie Marceau) who decides to give herself a new chance in love by leaving Paris for Los Angeles. Her children have deserted the family nest and her famous mother, who has been very absent during her life, has just died. Lisa needs a fresh start! She finds her best friend Luka (Djanis Bouzyani) who has made it in the United States by setting up a drag queens bar, but who is also struggling to find his Prince Charming. Luka then makes it her mission to help Lisa revive her love life by creating a profile for her on a dating app.
In her official press release, Lisa Azuelos underlines her enthusiasm at the idea of making this film:
My only goal when I make a film is LOVE and to thrill the audience. It is a real honor for me that Amazon Prime Video has decided to accompany me in this mission.
Amazon: conquering France
In the press release following the announcement of the film, Amazon confirms the diversification of its productions, as well as its attraction for France. So, as Georgia Brown, Amazon Originals European Creative Director for Amazon Studios, points out:
Teaming up with two of France’s most famous talented women, Lisa Azuelos and Sophie Marceau, is a dream come true for us. We are very happy to offer this comedy to our Prime Video members in France and around the world, and we hope that our viewers will be delighted by discovering this endearing, moving and funny film.
Thomas Dubois, Director of French Amazon Originals creations for Amazon Studios, also goes in this direction in this same press release:
For this new Amazon Original film, we maintain our desire to be a home for talent by offering original and funny comedy.
No offense to the distributors and exhibitors of French cinema, Amazon is well and truly determined to conquer the French market. We have also been able to see it recently in the sports field, since in addition to having broadcast the matches of Roland-Garros, the platform will broadcast, from the start of the school year, all the matches of the French Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 football championships.
As a reminder, I Love America is “only” the second original French film from Amazon. Indeed, his first is called The Fools’ Ball (directed by Melanie Laurent), and it will be broadcast from September 17 on the platform.
Regarding the film with Sophie Marceau, you will have to wait until 2022 to watch it on the streaming service. In the meantime, Sophie Marceau will be present at the next Cannes Film Festival for the needs of Everything went well which is part of the official selection.
