“I haven’t been five years of your life”

At the foot of the football pitch where he and his son played when Jonathan was little, Manel meets Alberto Chicote to talk about those times and those to come. The weight of yesterday means that Manel cannot lift his head today. Perhaps that is why the Nicasso is unable to gain height.

His relationship with his son is the great sorrow that torments him. “My son loved me, he was always on top of me on the sofa.” They were very close, but everything changed when he separated from Jonathan’s mother. “The most important thing was not to consume. So I had to get away from everything. It was very hard for him because he was 14 years old in the middle of his adolescence, at the worst moment a person can have, right? And then he spent five years without speaking to me,” he confesses to Chicote.

They got back together after the pandemic. “I was with my daughter Maria… and we suddenly ran into Jonathan.” They had not seen each other for five years. “We were in the bar, talking, talking, talking.” However, Manel believes that his son is still not able to trust him. “I think he loves me a lot, but it’s hard for him.”

All he wants is for his son to give him a hug, but he understands that he holds a grudge against him. “I haven’t been in his life for five years, it would hurt me if my father did that to me,” he admits. Alberto Chicote has a very special surprise prepared for him. Jonathan arrives to where they are and both finally embrace each other.

“At some point you have to stop looking back and start looking forward. Above all, for one thing, because if you want to face a different future, you can’t spend so much time stuck in a past that’s already gone,” recommends the chef of Pesadilla en la cocina.
