I have to interrupt the delivery of many cars – in the middle of the Christmas rush

New taxes on new cars are moving fast in Norway. Not only electric cars from the beginning of the year will receive VAT on the part of the purchase price that exceeds NOK 500,000. Additionally, there is a weight charge on all cars.

This means that many dealers are now in full swing, registering as many cars as possible before the new year.

One of the brands that has been really busy lately is BMW. In November, they had their best recording month ever on the Norwegian market, and a great December is coming too.

That’s how you can go further with the electric car this winter

It cannot be delivered

But now it reveals the industry website BilNytt.no that BMW has had to stop delivering some electric car models due to engine failures.

BilNytt.no writes that several customers have been told that their i4 or iX cannot be delivered yet, due to “engine failure”. This should be about 25% of the planned volume.

The cars are still in the owner’s name now, for later delivery. It is therefore important to be included in the taxes of the year.

The BMW i4 can also have an engine failure and therefore current cars are affected.

I waited a long time for the car

Communications director Marius Tegneby of BMW Group Norway confirms the halt in deliveries to BilNytt.no:

– Quality control has revealed that wear and damage can occur on a wheel bearing in the electric motor used in many of our electric cars, including the BMW i4 and BMW iX, due to a manufacturing error. We understand of course that this is not the message many of our customers want to receive now, as they have already been waiting a long time for their new car. However, BMW’s global guidelines do not deliver new or used cars to customers with possible known defects, says Tegneby.

BMW registered 2,205 new cars in November and became Norway's second largest car brand this month, beaten only by Tesla.

Little Christmas break

Customers who have already received vehicles which may be affected by the fault will be contacted directly by BMW. It is not known that there have been any accidents or that the use of the cars is associated with danger.

BMW dealerships are now faced with the challenge of stocking all registered cars. Many people are looking forward to a short Christmas break again this year. Here it will be important to take advantage of every day up to and including Friday 30 December.

Good news: You’ll be fine with the cheaper one
