The women’s team competition in gymnastics offered drama. After a failed start, the big star of the United States suddenly thanked himself. There was initial speculation about an injury, but after the competition, Simone Biles commented on it all.
Simone Biles was the big snack in Tokyo on Tuesday afternoon Finnish time.
After a failed landing in the beginning of the gymnastics team competition, Biles chose to suddenly resign and was replaced by Jordan Chiles in the US team.
Without Biles, the United States failed to defend the gold from the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.
ROC, consisting of Russian athletes, won on 169,528 points. The United States was second in 166,096 and the United Kingdom third in 164,096.
“We are not just athletes”
After the competition, Biles commented on the situation. At first it was speculated that Biles was injured, but this was not the case.
– After my performance, I simply did not want to continue. You have to be present to 100 or 120 percent. Otherwise you can injure yourself, Biles stated.
Biles revealed that she did not get it right and therefore chose to break.
– I have to focus on my mental health. I can not endanger my health or well-being.
– We are not just athletes, we are human and sometimes you just have to take a step back. “I did not want to go out and do anything stupid and hurt myself,” Biles said.

She did not provide any information regarding Thursday’s competition.
– We must protect our senses and our body and not just go out and do what the whole world wants us to do. I no longer trust myself as much, maybe it’s because I’m getting older?
On Monday, Biles published an Instagram post where she described her feelings ahead of the Olympics.
– It was not an easy day but I got through it. It certainly feels as if I occasionally carried the weight of the whole world on my shoulders.
– I make it look like pressure does not affect me, but sometimes it’s hard, Biles wrote.
