The idea of making a film about the former actress of the Youth Theater Elvīra Baldiņa came to director Virginia Lejiņa when Baldiņa celebrated her 100th anniversary.
The full-length documentary is created as a study of human life, the meaning of life and values.
“I’ve always been interested when there’s a big task and I feel something very, very important about it, [..] she really trusted me. We have the same sense of humor, and I think it worked very well,” says director Virginija Lejiņa.
Elvīra Baldiņa’s spiritual world is shaped by Latvian songs, which she calls the art of life. The actress has always been active in society, helped with a good word, wise advice and brightness, which always attracted people.
“She gets the same energy from people as she gives back to them. But she feels like a mission, which I also feel now, like a mission – to honor the folk song. We have the Song Festival, costumes, ornaments, but the folk song has somehow remained … well, Baron, but we don’t really know them,” notes Lejiņa.
Cinematographer Jānis Rēdlichs says about the film and its hero: “What is our main value? It is people. And she is completely legendary with her power, her strength. [..] An extremely strong memory that is trained with folk songs all the time.”
“Imagine that a person at 102 years old is so strong and so powerful, and so willful that he inspires you not to give up and to be like him.”

In the near future, it will become clear whether the documentary film about Elvīras Baldiņš “I have spoken” will be available to a wider audience.
