Börje Salming was supposed to lead Tre Kronor Legends this weekend. Now the icon is forced to rebid. – I have not felt okay, he says.
Börje Salming is undoubtedly one of our greatest athletes of all time. He is a real icon in hockey-crazy Toronto, where he represented the Maple Leafs for 16 seasons.
Psalm message
He was a real tough guy on the ice, and was hugely popular for his sacrificial game. Although he left Toronto over 30 years ago, he is still one of the organization’s largest, and he is a true flag bearer in the Canadian city.
This weekend he would lead Tre Kronor Legends in the high-profile double meetings against Icebreakers, but now it is clear that Börje Salming will be forced to say no to the powerful show. The reason has to do with his own health.
– I have not felt okay. That’s why I quit, but I do not want to go into what it is. It is as it is, it has to do with health, he says SportExpressen.
Profile strong meeting
He continues:
– It’s boring. Unfortunately, I can not do much about it, but it would have been fun to meet all the friends I played with before. There are not many matches these days, especially because of the corona.
The first match is played in Timrå on Saturday, and in Örnsköldsvik on Sunday. But even though Börje Salming is not in place, the audience will still be spoiled by starlight.
Among others, Peter Forsberg, Markus Näslund, Alexander Steen, Henrik Zetterberg and Michael Nylander will play. The purpose of the match this year is, among other things, to raise money for Ukraine.
– This year we play for Ukraine as well, it will be special. We raise money for both the foundation and humanitarian aid for suffering in Ukraine. It feels completely right to be able to help with what you can, says Zetterberg.
