“IS It was a very exciting and important moment, because I put my faith in a better future, in science and in the work I do. “This is what Marianna Annese, 31 years old, is the first Terlizzese ever to be vaccinated against the coronavirus on Sunday 27 December, in course of the so-called Vaccine Day.

Graduated in Healthcare, our fellow citizen has lived and worked since 2018 in Cerignola, where the Prevention Department of the Local Health Authority of Foggia is located, one of the four vaccination hubs designated by the Puglia Region, together with San Giovanni Rotondo, San Marco in Lamis and San Severo. As a health professional, Marianna Annese had priority in accessing the coveted vaccine, which arrived in 505 doses on the evening of Saturday 26 December at the Bari airport directly from Belgium, where Pfizer has its plants.

During her young career, Marianna has always dealt with infectious diseases and vaccinations, therefore also with Covid, since her first appearance in Capitanata. “The first case of Coronavirus I managed already on February 28, during the first wave – he tells TerlizziLive -. The role I have played to date has been taking care of patients since the onset of Covid symptoms, that is, from when they are reported to us by the general practitioner, and subsequently the swab is performed, with possible positive results and relative contact tracing, until the ascertainment of recovery “.

Contrary to the so-called no-vax, which are scrambling to pass vaccines as a formidable public control tool or, even, a decisive step towards health dictatorship, the workers of the detachment of Cerignola were all willing to get vaccinated, as evidenced by Annese: “I was drawn from thirty people in my department and then I went to the Institute of Hygiene and Public Health in Foggia, where they gave me the first dose of the vaccine.” Which, the girl points out, did not produce any side effects. “I was kept for only fifteen minutes for observation and, shortly after, in the same morning, I joined the director of my institute and another colleague at the Casa del Sollievo della Soflievo in San Giovanni Rotondo”.

The day of the young Terlizzese woman is not, in fact, over here, because after having undergone her own vaccination she made her active contribution to the Apulian “Vaccine Day”: “We personally vaccinated ten other health workers and doctors in the ready local rescue. Surely it was one of the best moments of the day, perhaps more than our own vaccination, because we were in one of the places most affected by the pandemic in Puglia “, comments the health worker. In fact, 132 Covid-positive patients are currently hospitalized in the dedicated units of the Gargano hospital, 89 in the Infectious Diseases department, 19 in Pneumology, 10 in Semi-Intensive Care and 14 in Intensive Care.

What many do not know is that Vaccine Day is actually double, because to be more effective the vaccine must be repeated three weeks later with the administration of a booster. “Now we will have to go back to getting vaccinated to complete the job, but I have faith in my work and in science”, Marianna says confidently.

In short, the counter-offensive against the coronavirus is still beyond its conclusion, but we can say with satisfaction that it has finally begun. Also in Puglia.
