I had enough energy for a long competition, reports Švábíková | iRADIO

Pole vaulter Amálie Švábíková took care of the best result of a Czech athlete at the Olympic Games in Paris. In front of the packed stands of the Stade de France stadium, after eleven years she moved the national maximum in this discipline, held by Jiřina Kudličková, to 480 centimeters and finished in fifth place. In an interview with Radiožurnál Sport, she admitted that it was difficult to concentrate on the next successive height.

Did I see correctly that tears appeared on your face after the successful attempt at 480 centimeters?
I am very emotional, so tears are very common for me. I definitely had a reason to be happy. I’m really glad it worked out.

How can one then concentrate on the next height, which was 485 centimeters?
It was already hard. I took the hardest rod in my life for those attempts. I had respect for that. The emotional strain was already so great that I could not concentrate properly. Anyway, I’m glad I got that height.

Even when I went to the attempt at 480 centimeters, I was supported by Katie Moon, who I told that it is the first time in my life that I am jumping such a height. I didn’t believe in it at all and I didn’t know if I was capable of it. But I was perfectly prepared.

You spent about three and a quarter hours in the sector. How did you manage to stay focused?
I was more afraid of it, but the girls jumped successive heights mostly on the first try. There was still enough energy, so I managed it well.
