The crash took place a few hundred meters from the premises of Fives, an industrial engineering company. Shortly after the accident, several of its employees tried to go to the scene, equipped with fire extinguishers, to try to rescue the passengers.
“We heard a noise”
“We were discussing between colleagues and we saw smoke, we heard a noise too, testifies one of them. We immediately thought it was a plane crash. The Bordeaux-Léognan-Saucats airfield is a few kilometers away, and many small planes fly over the area every day.
According to this young man, five people from Fives left for the crash site with a fire extinguisher. “Then I heard a voice calling for help, I grabbed another fire extinguisher and I joined them, he says, still upset by the event. The area was very difficult to access and when we arrived, the flames were already several meters high. The plane is inaccessible and the extinguishers are ineffective against this type of fire. “We called, but we couldn’t hear anything,” he says. It was horrible. »
According to Olivia Poupot, the colonel commanding the departmental group of the Gironde gendarmerie, the psychological cell of the Samu was mobilized for the employees.
Smoke could be seen shortly after the crash.

In another company, employees only saw smoke, without hearing any noise. “It was very dark, so we thought there must be a fire,” said a woman, adding that she saw Fives employees come out with fire extinguishers. “Every day, a plane passes every ten minutes above our heads, it goes from Cessna to DR400”, declares another.
The plane was the second of a procession of three, which was leaving on vacation. The causes of the accident are still unknown.
