Thilakan is a unique artist in Malayalam cinema. He has appeared in Malayalam through various roles and has proved that he can play any part of a role with ease. Thilakan’s sons, Shammi Thilakan and Shobi Thilakan are active in Malayalam cinema. Along with acting, Shobi Thilakan is also a busy actor in dubbing.
Shobhi Thilakan says that it was Thilakan’s father who gave director Hariharan the courage and confidence to call Edchena Kunkan with him in the Kerala Varma film Pazassiraja. He also said that he won the State Award for Best Dubbing Artist for dubbing in that film. Shobi Thilakan was speaking in an interview given to Ginger Media.
It was my father who encouraged Hariharan sir and convinced him to call Edachena Kunkan in the Kerala Varma movie Pazassiraja with me.
It was sir Mankomb Gopalakrishnan who advised me that I should contact Shobi to call Edchena Kunkan, Shobi will sound right. Even then, when Hariharan sir doubted whether I would be okay, my father came to the studio to dub.
When my father asked Hariharan sir why he was standing like this, he told my father that I think I can call Edchena Kunkan with Shobi. His father told Hariharan sir that his voice would be right for that character.
It is that confidence that led me to the film Pazhassiraja which won the state film award for the best black artist of the year,’ said Shobi Thilakan.
