MYTH
“I feel good, I am healthy.”
One of the most widespread myths in the population, in particular the Mexican population, is to think that one “is healthy” for not having any pain, discomfort or discomfort; Whoever thinks this way is not different from individuals who lived many centuries ago, when diseases, their causes and their treatments were unknown.
When asking the question: How do you feel? Are you healthy? More than 80% of Mexicans will answer yes, they are healthy, and that has very serious consequences.

CONSEQUENCE
The lack of education for health in schools, the ignorance and indolence of the population, the advice and traditions regarding products or “magic” remedies to prevent or cure diseases, make the efforts of public health experts useless and that the outlook is truly worrying.
The figures are chilling, dear reader, you know some: seven out of ten Mexicans suffer from obesity with all its associated diseases, four out of ten Mexicans over 40 have high blood pressure; diabetes is a disease that causes more than 100,000 deaths a year, breast cancer is the leading cause of death from tumors in Mexican women, with an average of ten deaths per day; And if we talk about prostate cancer, 19 Mexicans die every day from this disease, and so we can talk about many other diseases that today have treatment and cure.
And all these Mexican men and women feel that they are “healthy”, which is the saddest and deadliest myth there is, because they live as in the age of caves, without worrying about their health … until illness and death appear. , as we saw and are seeing in this terrible covid-19 pandemic.

REALITY
The reality is that if there is a purpose that we can do at the beginning of this year, after what happened in 2020, it is to take care of our health, because today, unlike what happened in previous centuries, preventive medicine must be part of our life, that simple, that transcendent.
Today we have the laboratory, cabinet, pathological anatomy methods and many more to discover diseases in time before they threaten our lives; This concept of prevention is fundamental to our lives, the aphorism “A gram of prevention is better than a kilo of cure” is totally true.
The reality is that we must take care of our body and our health as we take care of our car, to which we periodically take it to have tires, engine, battery, oil, etc. checked, or how we take care of our cell phone, which we constantly check in case it has any fault or error.
We must know our numbers: weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, now that there is covid, and in the laboratory, know how the blood, red and white blood cells, sugar level, cholesterol, triglycerides, etc. are. Every six months, women should have a mammogram and go to the gynecologist for a Pap test.
Men need to do a blood prostate antigen test and go to the urologist and, thus, only then, can we truly live healthy and discover in time a disease that can be cured with the appropriate treatment.
It is unfortunate that millions of Mexicans fall ill and die from ignorance, for not knowing their body, for not taking the proper medicines, for believing in magic and incantations; Our New Years program, if we really want it to be a Happy New Year, must start with knowing how healthy we really are.
And you, dear reader, are you healthy?
