At the same time, he emphasized that the European Union’s financial support could give a positive impetus to the country’s development, provided that Lithuania has a clear strategy regarding the use of these funds.
“I am hoping for a better ability to talk to each other and to other authorities, and I want to wish that too, because I believe that the next five to seven years could be really great for Lithuania,” the president told reporters at his polling station in New Vilnius. “It has all the conditions, including our good cooperation and the benefits of membership of the European Union, the multiannual budget, the recovery fund, Lithuania is really receiving very large funds, all that remains is to maintain a very clear vision, strategy and seize these opportunities.”
Asked by journalists what he voted for this time – change or stability, Nauseda answered that he had voted for “less rubbing and personal attacks, for us to think more about the country”.
He expressed hope that the elections would be successful for those forces that understand the vision of the welfare state.
“A green, digital, socially just Lithuania is the vision of a welfare state and, of course, it will be easier for me to talk to political forces that do not have to explain from scratch what a welfare state is,” he added.
According to the Central Election Commission, 20.24% of voters had voted in the Seimas elections on Sunday from 7 am to 2 pm, but 31.89% had taken into account the previous voting.
