I don’t want to have high blood pressure and obesity, we take 8,200 steps a day

GIACARTA (RIAUPOS.CO) – How many steps do you take in a day? Studies have found that taking 8,200 steps a day can reduce the risk of hypertension, obesity, sleep problems and depression.

In research published in Nature Medicine, reported by diabetes.itOn Saturday (10/15/2022), more than 6,000 attendees were asked to wear activity monitors for 10 hours or more a day. Researchers recorded participants’ health and lifestyle status for 4 years from 2018 to 2021.

Evaluations show that walking at least 4 miles or 8,200 steps per day supports health benefits. Traveling the equivalent of 4 miles a day reduces the risk of a number of health conditions such as hypertension and obesity.

A team of researchers from Vanderbilt University Medical Center completed the 4-year study.

This study compared the incidence of various diseases in the general population with study participants taking Fitbits.

The analysis revealed that taking 8,200 steps a day could prevent obesity, gastroesophageal reflux disease and major depressive disorder. The data collected showed that overweight individuals could reduce their risk of obesity by nearly two-thirds (64%) if daily steps were increased from 6,000 to 11,000.

Research shows that as the number of steps taken increases, the risk of disease decreases. However, the risk of hypertension and type 2 diabetes did not decrease once participants walked in excess of 8,000 to 9,000 steps per day.

Study participants were 41-67 years old, and the majority were white (84%), female (73%), and had a college degree (71%). The study authors note that while more research is needed in a more diverse population.
