She is one of the most beloved actresses by all Colombians, who began to see her on television screens from an early age, after having represented her Santander department in the National Beauty Contest. The woman spoke with the entertainment program ‘La Red’ of Caracol Televisión and made some revelations that surprised her followers.
“I have cancer”, were the words with which the actress opened the interview in a forceful way, and added, “Five years ago I started having a tiny lesion on my tongue, I went to the doctor, he removed it, he did the surgery, he was referred to pathology, the result was leukoplakia.”
Leukoplakia is a disease that causes thickening in certain areas of the mouth that is white. Most of these lesions are not cancerous, but some may show signs of cancer and are caused by tobacco use. It is characterized by its appearance on the gums, the tongue, the inner part of the cheeks and in the lower part of the mouth, which is why many doctors indicate that it is impossible to remove them.
“After three years the injury returned, we returned to pathology and it was a second leukoplakia. Last year during the pandemic, I saw a very small laceration not in the same place where the previous ones were, but under my tongue, I said ‘well this will heal’ and since it was a pandemic time the surgeons did not work 100 % “, Ruíz revealed to ‘La Red’.
The actress mentioned that, in May of this year, the lesions began to take on a much larger size than they normally presented on the two occasions that they had already presented, but also, a pain that she had never felt appeared and she consulted the specialist.
“He extracted the lesion, sent it to pathology and this time it took a long time, he called me at his office and gave me the news that I have cancer. Fortunately, it is a less aggressive type of cancer than others ”, noted the actress for ‘La Red’.
Marta Liliana will undergo a new surgical intervention in the month of September, a process that will be a little more complicated and extensive than she is willing to go through.
“Fortunately, this tumor occupies more or less ¼ of the tongue and the way to eradicate the cancer is to remove it completely, including the edges that are one centimeter on each side of the lesion, including down. An implant is coming in that place that is going to be removed, it will be taken from my arm, they will take the artery, the entire vascular part of the arm, they will put it on the tongue. Microsurgery is that it is going to be a microscopic surgery where they have to connect each one of the glasses where they are going to have to put the part of my arm replacing the tongue ”, specified the artist for the entertainment program.
It should be noted that the surgery will last 12 hours, then it will spend a few days in the intensive care area and then a process of adaptation of the implant will begin as it will not be able to eat normally so its nutrition will be through a zone.
“Without question I am going to have a speech injury that I hope tenaciously, with strength and with a brawl which is what I must have at this moment, overcome it, dedicate myself to doing all the therapy because I do not want this to be the end of my career”, he pointed out.
To face this difficult process, her main motivation is mother’s love, since she has a teenage daughter who is at a time in her life when she needs to be by her side. Today she only asks her followers that through a bond of faith, she can win one more battle in her life.
“I can tell you that I am going to undergo this process that is painful, that it is difficult, that for me it will be very uncomfortable but that I need you to help me with a little prayer because God is the one who can do everything”, the actress finished for ‘La Red’.
